The full DSA-Sec journey takes about seven months, from shortlisting to results. Here's the five-step timeline every P6 parent follows.
Schools update their DSA pages by late April, ahead of the application window. Start from your child's talent on dsaguide.sg, compare the schools that recruit it, and note each school's selection format — trial, audition, test or interview. Pick realistic options: you'll only have three choices.
Apply free of charge at the DSA-Sec Portal (moe.gov.sg/dsa-sec) — only one parent needs to log in with Singpass. Indicate up to three choices, where each choice is one school plus one talent area (the same school can appear twice with different talents). No documents needed: your child's P5–P6 results and P4–P6 CCA, VIA and school achievements are shared with the schools automatically, and there's an optional field for up to 10 non-school achievements. Exception: SOTA and Singapore Sports School take applications on their own websites.
Each school runs its own selection. Shortlisted children are invited for sports trials, auditions, selection tests or interviews at the school. Many schools assess potential, not just medals — children without formal records can still be selected.
Every applicant is notified by email: Confirmed, Waiting List or Rejected. If your child has at least one offer, submit up to three school preferences in the portal during the School Preference Submission window — this time both parents must log in with Singpass to confirm.
DSA results are released with PSLE results. Successful children skip the S1 Posting Exercise entirely, cannot transfer schools afterwards, and commit to the school and talent area from Sec 1 to Sec 4. If unsuccessful, your child simply takes part in S1 Posting as normal — nothing is lost by applying.
